Happy Halloween AP English

 Hi everyone,

I hope you enjoy this Halloween and stay safe. This is my favorite holiday of all time and I'm really upset that I won't be able to do anything, especially since the weather is so nice, there's a full moon, and it's a Saturday. I've been wearing sweaters and sweatpants for the past 3 days trying to watch all of my horror favorites with my mom. Just some classics, like Poltergeist and The Shining, along with some of my new favorites like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor (which I highly recommend). Not sure if anyone else is a big horror fan, but if you have any suggestions, text me because I love a good one.

That's really all I have to say. What's everyone doing this year since Halloween is kinda "cancelled"? let me know.

Carpe Diem: Don't Take Anything for Granted

Hey y'all! So yesterday I was taking a shower and felt a little light headed. The next thing I knew I was sitting down. It took me a second to realize I had passed out. I tried to get out of the bathroom to go lie down and passed out again. I felt like I hit my head, but I couldn't really remember. The only injury I had was a busted lip (which isn't great because I have an audition due on Saturday), but still, I was distinctly disoriented and unsettled. My life flashed before my eyes when they said, "The risk of drowning is significantly higher if you take a bath, so be sure to avoid long hot baths (and showers)."

I know this story sounds really morbid, but it just made me realize how precious life is and how very lucky I am. I am fine now - it was just a combination of low blood pressure and exhaustion that caused me to faint, so now I get to eat a ton of salty food (yay Cheez-its!) to raise my blood pressure. Anyway, this whole episode has reminded me to be grateful for every single day because you never know what may happen, and also, to get better sleep! I will definitely take shorter showers (no more watching the "I'm Flying" scene over and over again haha), but more importantly, I will try not to rush through life just to get to the "next important thing." (Also, isn't it ironic that I lost consciousness in the shower after watching clips from a movie about people trying to escape the water?) I need to remind myself to seize every day (hence the title of this post) and to take a moment to stop and smell the roses along the way rather than just plowing through life. Anyway, sorry for this long post, but I hope y'all enjoyed reading it! Also thanks for all the well-wishes on my practice account! :)

Results of Fatal Flaw Poll (finally)

Hi Class,

Oops, sorry for taking so long on this. I've been trying to figure out how to post the results in a form where you can see everything and I couldn't figure it out (I'm bad with technology). I'll just type it out and give you guys what you got for the top 3 votes, or any votes that got more than 5. If some of the number seem low, it's mostly because the votes were so split. ALSO, a side note for Ms King, Leven wanted you to know that she actually took this quiz and gave you every single flaw...might want to reconsider that blog membership.

Adriana: 3 vanity, 3 ability to resist challenge, 3 misplaced trust

Renee: 6 ambition, 7 excessive wrath, 7 ability to resist challenge, 8 pride

Deryn: 3 excessive personal loyalty, 4 impatience, 5 excessive curiosity

Sofia: 3 vanity, 4 excessive personal loyalty, 7 low self-esteem

Catherine: 5 vanity, 6 feeling of inferiority, 6 anxiety

Clara:  5 over-analyzation, 6 excessive curiosity, 7 anxiety

Camila: 3 impatience, 5 feeling of inferiority, 7 vanity

Abbie: 5 low self-esteem, 5 excessive curiosity,  6 impulsivity

Laura: 3 holding grudges, 5 impatience, 6 low self-esteem

Erica: 3 excessive personal loyalty, 3 misplaced trust, 4 excessive jealousy

Izzy: 4 excessive curiosity, 7 over-analyzation, 11 ambition

Ms King: 4 pride, 4 over-analyzation, 5 impatience

Rikki: 5 ambition, 5 anxiety, 6 holding grudges,

Hunter: 5 pride, 5 excessive curiosity, 6 over-analyzation

As for flaws that were suggested we have: Lust, Mommy/Daddy Issues, dead dad, and "being a freaking loser." I really wish I know who suggested what, but I will keep these quizzes anonymous for the time being. I do have another quiz idea relating to "it girl songs" that I will explain next week or the week after, but I'm assuming you guys are a bit tired of my polls and will give you a break.

Edit: Some people think that these quizzes bring out the worst in us and make us rely on others for validation. I can see that point, so I'd like to invite you all to comment on this post to say how you feel about the results or what you think you should've gotten. I personally like doing these to see how others perceive me and to try to learn more about all of you through the results, but I can see the argument.

Ryn’s Netflix Pick 🍿

Before I start with my Netflix pick of the week, I would like to thank Catherine for giving me the idea to post my fav Netflix movies and shows as I am a hardcore binger (a series a week is my max). I figure I will start doing my Netflix Pick and my Quarantine Journals as a sort of recurring series for the blog this year. Please note however that my taste in movies and shows may be different than you and may not be what you consider good, because it is my opinion. (Also note that I will try to not mention any really popular movies that have been out for a while like Vampire Diaries or To All the Boys I have Loved before just because I know all of yall have watched them already, so it would be a waste of a post...) Hope yall like it!

Not one of my favs but a bit of a spooky season vibe...

The society. The society is one of those Riverdalesque shows that I would watch when I wanted a drama/romance/mystery. Basically in a small rich Massachusetts town, the senior class goes on a field trip and when they return nobody from the town is there. Basically complete abandonment from all other town members. They quickly realized that leaving the town is not an option. It is interesting to watch the mechanics of humanity as a form of civilization especially when the people forming the civilization are teenagers. Somewhere along the way of creating a government  there will be a coup, an epic hide and go seek, murder, and a prom. It ends on an epic cliffhanger that makes you long for the next season.

BOO

Why is it that during Halloween and other times of the year people find genuine happiness and excitement and scaring themselves?  I have literally spoken to people who have gotten upset with movies because they did not scare them enough. I don't understand where the interest in, raising the hairs on your skin, comes from. I have always been a scary person, and I will admit that I do not enjoy horror movies so I am biased. The scariest movie that I watched was the nightcrawlers by Stephen King, and that was a mistake because I thought it was going to be a movie about two people that fell in love because I changed the channel when I saw Nightcrawler kissing the girl they were trying to kill and I thought like it was going to be one of those twilight romance movies and that was during the time when I was reading Twilight so I was like let's watch it. It was not like Twilight. AT ALL. And I hated the fact that I was scared afterward, I did not want to turn off the lights because I knew the nightcrawlers would come and eat me alive. And if you watch the movie you know that the cats will save the girl's life. But I didn't own any cats! So I hope you have a happy Halloween and just to know that this season I will once again be watching Twitches, which scares the crap out of me.

Also if you can...

Procrastination

Hey y'all!

This might just be me, but is anyone else suffering from severe procrastination this year so far. As y'all can see from this timestamp, I'm posting 15 minutes before the deadline. I think that with the new schedule combined with a return to school, we are just drained. Consequently, the time when we're productive has gone down severely. for example, I'm currently speaking this blog into my phone because I'm too lazy to type it out.

This might just be me, but I feel tired and lazy, more so than usual. I didn't think senioritis would sit in until the second semester. Additionally, this has been very hard on the college process because I don't want to write my essays, but I know they need to get done. This is just my opinion, so y'all might feel differently. But, I still wanted to share.

Yours truly,
Hunter

Mental Health

I know that this year has been really difficult on all of us for many reasons. What are some of the things you guys like to do to help you mentally?

I really enjoy going to the gym and weight lifting. For the past few months, I’ve started to eating better, and have really started to see changes in my body, and it’s something I’m really proud of.

I found a new show to watch on Netflix...

 Hey y’all,

I hope you guys are all doing well. So, yesterday I went on Netflix for the first time in weeks because I’ve just been so busy lately with school and haven’t had time to watch anything. But anyways, I got on Netflix  and was looking for something to watch when i stumbled a show called Grand Army. It’s about five teenagers from the Bronx that go to the same high school. It dives into the lives of 5 teens, and each of them have a unique and interesting story that I feel that many people can relate to in some may. It deals with racism, sexual assault, BLM, trying to fit in, and just topics like that. I really think that some of you guys would like it too.

What shows are y’all currently watching?

Stessin' bout the Election

Hey guys! So for me, it is crazy that the election is in less than two weeks and that we hopefully have a new president. But with all the anticipation, I have been stressing about the election. I remember in 2016 watching the election and being terrified with the results. And this isn't trying to judge anyone's political views, it's just my opinion! I hope that for this election we get the best candidate that America needs. While some of my friends have similar political views to me (I'm friends with people who are not, and that's ok!), I personally see a lot of people ignoring the racist and scandalous ideas the other candidate has been portraying, even with the BLM Movement. While I can't vote, I urge people in this class who can and anyone to please vote and look into what America needs (equality, how to take care of the Covid crisis *aka wearing a mask*, etc).

Election Poll - Results!

 Hey guys,

So... the results are in! Aaaaaaandddd... Joe Biden won. Below I provided a pie graph of all of the responses (sorry about the colors being switched, I tried to get it to where Biden was blue and Trump was red, but its okay.) Biden won by a landslide, with 10 votes. Only 1 person voted for Trump. Hope you guys had a fun time doing this... I know I did! Alright, that is it for now.

And remember, only 10 more days until the election! If you can vote, please make sure you do. Now, more than ever, America needs it.

Much love, Erica Ricci

Guinea Pigs and Hamsters

This is very random, but I really want a guinea pig. I used to have hamsters, but that was years ago and I haven't had a rodent in a long time. I got my first hamster when I was 10, I think. I named it Fargo after the city I was born in. He was pretty cool, but hamsters don't really do much except eat, sleep, and run around in their wheel at 2 in the morning when you're trying to sleep. One time, Fargo escaped through a broken wire in his cage, and he jumped off of my five foot tall dresser and hid under it until I got home and found him. That was scary because I thought my dog had eaten him, but no, he was just chilling under my dresser. My second hamster was one that I saw at Petco as a baby, but my mom wouldn't buy for me, and when we went back to Petco around 6 months later, she was at the very front of the store for only $10 because nobody wanted her. I got her and named her Bliss. No reasoning for that one, I think I just googled "cool girl hamster names." Bliss also escaped, but that's because I accidentally left the cage door open like an idiot. She was fine, too, she just ran under my bed and hid there. I don't know why they bothered escaping, since they didn't even go anywhere and just hid, but hey, at least they had a cool little adventure.

Anyway, I want another rodent. Maybe a guinea pig, since they live for longer. But, my dad told me no because 1) he doesn't like rodents, and 2) I'm going to leave for college soon anyway, and he doesn't want me to just get a new pet and then leave, which is fair. Oh well, I guess I'll just get one when I'm older. Another animal I've always wanted is a Rottweiler, but that's a much bigger commitment than a guinea pig, so when I get my own place, I think I'll start off small.

Disney Villain Poll

Hey guys! So, I've been seeing a lot of polls lately and am absolutely loving it! I've been meaning to make one for a while, ever since the first one about Harry Potter houses, actually, but I'm finally getting around to it. I've been trying to figure out what to make a poll on, because there's so many series and franchises out there, but it came down to either Disney villains or Star Wars characters. I chose Disney villains because they have more distinctive qualities, and would be more recognizable than specific Star Wars characters. I left out a few like Shere Khan, Claude Frollo, John Ratcliffe, etc., because they don't relate to anyone in our class. Or at least I hope they don't.

*many of these characters have similar traits since they are Disney villains, but I did my best to point out defining traits as well as the common ones, such as power lust and willingness to do whatever it takes*

*Poll at bottom*

The Evil Queen (Snow White)

The Evil Queen was the villain in the very first animated Disney film, so unfortunately she isn't a very developed character. But, since she was the first, it wouldn't seem right to leave her out. From what we do know about her, she is ruthless, and very prone to jealousy. She sets out to murder a young teenager just because she didn't like that Snow White was prettier than her. So, she's very petty, too. She isn't afraid to hurt people to get what she wants, and she doesn't have or make time for those who aren't willing to help her achieve her goals (for example, the Huntsman). Family doesn't matter to her, since Snow White is meant to be her stepdaughter.

Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)

Another original! Maleficent is also extremely petty. I mean, she cursed the baby princess because she was upset that she wasn't invited to the princess's christening. She is also a woman who is not afraid to get what she wants, even if it means hurting others to do it. She holds a particular disdain for the good fairies, because they stand for everything she doesn't, which upsets her because she believes that she is in the right no matter what. She is similar to the Evil Queen, but is in my opinion a more developed and relatable character because there is a more solid reason for her pettiness; she feels like an outcast, isolated because the kingdom doesn't accept her, and this feeling of isolation can very easily turn to anger towards those she believes are responsible for her unhappiness.

Ursula (The Little Mermaid)

Ursula is extremely ambitious. She feels like an outcast, but doesn't wallow in her own pity, and instead takes matters into her own hands and plots to overthrow the king. Ursula is also very deceptive and cunning, and shameless about it: "I admit that in the past I've been a nasty. They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch." She takes advantage of people wherever she can in order to fulfill her goals of overthrowing King Triton and becoming the queen of all the sea. She does have those that she loves, though (her eels Flotsam and Jetsam), and their deaths are what pushes her over the edge to try and kill Ariel and Eric. So, she's caring when it comes to very specific people, but if you aren't on her good side, then you are expendable unless you have something she needs (but even then she is likely to screw you over. She's very underhanded).

Jafar (Aladdin)

Jafar is a perfect example of a wolf in sheep's clothing. He is incredibly charming, and has the full trust of many around him, including the highest authority figure (the Sultan). Being second will never be good enough for Jafar; he has extreme power lust, but unlike some of the other villains, he isn't openly evil. He is meticulous and spends his time plotting. He doesn't go out of his way to commit violence, but he is not at all opposed to it if things don't go his way. Jafar is vicious and cunning, and his ambition and thirst for power is entirely what drives him; he wants 100% of the power, even if he is not best suited for the position.

Scar (The Lion King)

My favorite Disney villain! Scar craves power. He feels deeply wronged by those around him, underappreciated and unloved; he doesn't feel this without good reason, though. Fun fact, Scar's birth name is Taka, which means "dirt" or "trash" or "want" in Swahili. He was unloved by his family from the very beginning, and that anger festered over the years and turned into hatred for his brother, Mufasa, whose name means "king." Scar has a strong sense of justice, and while it may be misguided, he doesn't deny that he is the bad guy. He will do what it takes to accomplish his goals, and he deliberately goes out of his way to hurt his family to do so. Family means nothing to him, as he has always been an outcast within his own family, and even though he forms a sort of pseudo-family through the hyenas, they really don't mean anything to him either (they are just a way of obtaining more power). To Scar, everyone is a means to an end, even the people he claims to be helping.

Gaston (Beauty and the Beast)

We've been talking about fatal flaws, and Gaston's would definitely be hubris. Gaston is extremely self centered, and what makes this worse is that his confidence is backed up by everyone in the village fawning over him (except for Belle). He has almost everything, could get any girl he wants, but he will always want what he cannot have (Belle). He has an extremely jealous personality, and a mindset of "if I can't have then it no one can." He has many friends but doesn't truly care about any of them, as we see in how poorly he treats LeFou, who is his number one supporter and would do practically anything for him. He also doesn't truly care about Belle, either, despite his claims to love her and that if she were to marry him, he would care for her and be the best husband. He doesn't support her interests and simply wants her as a trophy wife, as she is the most beautiful woman in the village. Gaston isn't incapable of caring, but his extreme pride and jealousy get in the way of his ability to form genuine connections with people.

Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmatians)

Cruella is very proud of who she is. She has no qualms about what she does, and flaunts it around to everyone. She is very reckless, as she sets out to steal the puppies from Anita due to her impulsivity and inability to control her desires. She avoids doing the dirty work herself if possible, but she will step in to do things if she believes others to be incapable of handling it. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to step outside of the law to obtain her goals, but her downfall in the end is all because of her own recklessness and anger, not because others were more powerful than her.

Hades (Hercules)

Hades is very power hungry and angry. We see anger issues in the majority of Disney villains, but Hades probably takes the cake for most intense issues with handling his rage. He wants nothing more than to get revenge on his brother Zeus for taking the sky and giving him the Underworld, and the only way for him to do that is to kill Hercules, Zeus' son, who he learns from the three Fates is the one who will defeat him. Family obviously means nothing to him, as he is more than happy to destroy all the gods in the process of taking over Olympus, and his main goal is to kill his own nephew. Hades is also very manipulative, as we see in his arrangement with Meg. She sold his soul to him to save her boyfriend, and he uses her to seduce Hercules, literally giving him a weakness for Hades to exploit.

Mother Gothel (Tangled)

Mother Gothel is another one of my favorite Disney villains, mostly because she has a lot of layers. Gothel's main concern is her youth and beauty. Gothel is extremely vain and will do anything to maintain these qualities. She doesn't not care about Rapunzel, but she cares much more about what Rapunzel can do for her than for the girl herself. We see in one scene when Gothel says "I love you" and Rapunzel says back "I love you more," Gothel replies with "I love you most," but she isn't talking directly to Rapunzel; she is stroking her hair as she proclaims her love, proving that her youth and beauty are the most important things to her, even above her own daughter (well, stolen daughter. But she still "raised" her for 18 years). She also has violent tendencies, as we see at the bar, and at the very end when she chains and gags Rapunzel in a last ditch attempt to make the girl stay with her. She isn't afraid of anyone either, including men; she hires two giant men to take Rapunzel back and boss them around as if they aren't twice her size and terrifying.

Dr. Facilier (The Princess and the Frog)

Dr. Facilier is yet another villain with extreme power lust. He's very smoothing talking and suave, and manipulates both Naveen and his manservant Lawrence into doing things that only benefit Facilier in the long run. He poses as a very powerful figure, but in reality, his power comes completely from others (his "friends on the other side"), and without them, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on against the prince or Tiana. This is his downfall in the end, as he uses one too many favors from his "friends" that he can't pay back, and they finally take their payment in the form of his life. Facilier thinks that nothing can touch him, pretending to have control over those who provide his power and not taking his debts seriously until it's too late. Overall, he's cocky, charming, and manipulative, but none of it matters in the end because he overestimates himself.

Yzma (The Emperor's New Groove)

Yzma is very entitled and vengeful. She is wronged by Kuzco, and it's understandable why she was upset, but she sets out to kill him instead of handling it properly; so she has definite anger issues. Kuzco's entire problem with Yzma is that she was attempting to run the country behind his back, and was sitting in his throne and dealing with matters that he should've been handling, so we know she's also a control freak. It's implied that Yzma is the one who raised Kuzco, as his parents are nowhere to be seen in the film, and she is the one to take over the throne when Kuzco is gone. Yzma's negative influence is likely the reason that Kuzco is such a jerk. She also has a loyal helper, Kronk, who she doesn't treat particularly well, despite him being her only friend/ally. She's able to care for others, since she raised Kuzco and doesn't always treat Kronk badly, but her issues with anger and control get in the way of any urges to care about others that she has.

The Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland)

The Queen of Hearts definitely has a god complex, as she wants to be the best at everything, and bullies everyone into submission and doing her will. If someone speaks out against her, her immediate response is to have their head cut off, which shows you how needlessly violent she is. She has zero issue with violence, or with getting her hands dirty. She also bullies those she is supposed to love, too (her husband), and she seems incapable of caring about anyone. She's just all around an awful person with no redeemable qualities, in my opinion.

Prince Hans (Frozen)

Hans is a complicated character. He isn't necessarily evil, but power is very important to him. He is a little misunderstood and hurt, though, as he admits that he's been bullied by his 12 brothers for his entire life.  Because he has so many siblings, even if some died, Hans would never be the heir to his own kingdom, so he looks for this power elsewhere (Arendelle). Hans definitely has power lust, but he also seems lonely to me. He's willing to marry a woman he just met in order to rule the kingdom. But he isn't a tyrant. When Elsa, the rightful ruler, freezes her entire kingdom and runs away because she doesn't want to deal with confrontation from Anna, we see Hans helping the citizens of Elsa's kingdom, making sure they all have food and blankets to survive the cold that their queen created. So, he definitely cares and wants to be a good ruler, but he goes about it in the wrong way. His power lust does get to him in the end when he betrays Anna and tries to kill Elsa, but in my opinion, had things gone well for him and Elsa hadn't returned, Hans had the potential to be a much better ruler than Elsa, whose first instinct was always to run away and never face her problems. I didn't mean for this to turn into a paragraph bashing Elsa, but overall, I think that Hans is a sad and misunderstood guy stuck living in twelve different shadows, and just wants a place to call his own: "I've been searching my whole life to find my own place..."

Hamilton!

Recently there has been a topic of discussion concerning the realistic portrayal of the history in life of Alexander Hamilton done by Lin-Manuel Miranda in his play Hamilton. Many have argued that the play is unrealistic as somei lyrics were not historically backed. For example Angelica Schuyler was already married during the time in which she met Alexander Hamilton making the song Satisfied a bit questionable considering that she was already taken, which would have ruined one of the ideas within the play Angelica gave up her chance to be with Alexander for her sister.  Critics also. Lin-manuel Miranda's choice of an all black cast was inappropriate as it may lead some to believe that the true historical events may have been more inclusive than before. They believe his inclusion of African American actors male lead some to believe that America was more Progressive than they were during this time, claiming that Lin-Manuel Miranda should have been more honest with his choice of who would represent the founding fathers. Due to some of these “false narratives” many historians have attacked  Lin-Manuel Miranda for his adaption of the history of America, as they claim that it glorified Alexander Hamilton to be more heroic than the actual person himself.  I'd argue, Lin-Manuel Miranda, although he intended to tell this tale of Hamilton through a new lens, did not aim for complete accuracy in his retelling the story of Hamilton because that was never his overall intention. The title of Hamilton is followed by “an American story,” which leads me to believe that Lin wanted to explain the development of America as a country through the triumphs of Alexander Hamilton who we see was not the ideal founding father as some of us may have thought. He includes in all African-American cast to further this point that the development of the United States was done through core principles of freedom. Lin-Manuel Miranda in his play of Hamilton aims for a true retelling of America's history through the life of Alexander Hamiltonm not a true retelling of Alexander Hamilton through the history of America.

Harry Potter and Oedipus: Fate or Free Will?

Hey y'all! Sorry but this is gonna be yet another Harry Potter post. As we discussed in class today, the reason the prophecy about Oedipus was fulfilled was because of Oedipus himself - namely, his tragic flaw of hubris. When the drunk man insulted him and questioned his legitimacy, Oedipus just couldn't let it rest, and he proceeded to seek out the prophecy. His pride was wounded at the insinuation that he was born out of wedlock. After hearing the horrors of the prophecy, he then fled Corinth; had he stayed, he may never have encountered his father and killed him in a road rage incident or married the woman who was his mother. If Oedipus had never heard the prophecy, it likely would've never been fulfilled. (By definition, in Aristotelian tragedy, the hero falls into misfortune by his own mistake, not by fate, so he was not necessarily destined to kill his father and marry his mother had he not had excessive pride.)

Similarly, in Harry Potter, Snape barges in during Professor Trelawney's interview at the Hog's Head and hears the prophecy she tells Dumbledore. He then relays it to Voldemort, not realizing that he has just signed the death sentence for his beloved Lily. However, he didn't have to. The prophecy simply states that "the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...born to those who have thrice defied...born as the seventh month dies...and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have the power the Dark Lord knows not...and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives..." (J.K Rowling, from this website: https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Prophecy) Neville Longbottom was also born at the end of July (July 30th), and his parents had also defied Voldemort three times, but Voldemort chose Harry to be his "equal" because Harry was a Half-Blood, like him, whereas Neville was a Pure-Blood. However, Harry then took it upon himself to fight Voldemort because of his designation as the Boy-Who-Lived. In the Half-Blood Prince, Harry wonders, "Had Voldemort chosen Neville, it would be Neville sitting opposite Harry bearing the lightning-shaped scar and the weight of the prophecy. . . . Or would it? Would Neville's mother have died to save him, as Lily had died for Harry? Surely she would. . . . But what if she had been unable to stand between her son and Voldemort? Would there then have been no "Chosen One" at all? An empty seat where Neville now sat and a scarless Harry who would have been kissed good-bye by his own mother, not Ron's?" ((HBP pg 139/133), from this website: https://www.beyondhogwarts.com/harry-potter/articles/neville-longbottom-the-other-chosen-one.html) If Snape had never told the Prophecy to Voldemort, Voldemort would've never targeted Harry and his parents. (Snape carries this guilt with him for the rest of his life. I do believe he has a redemption arc in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, however.) Granted, Voldemort still might've killed them (Harry and his family) on principle, but not specifically. I thought this related to Oedipus because when Oedipus hears the prophecy, he seals his fate to fulfill it. Anyway, here's my impassioned rant. Let me know what y'all think!

Izzy's Ramblings: Misery loves company

Izzy's Ramblings:

Misery loves company. We all know this fact of life. But I think we can actively work against it. When I am upset over a grade or sports competition, I want to commiserate with someone about my terrible feelings. Do I want them to have a bad grade or perform poorly, though? When I have to drive my little brother to school, do I want to make my sisters come along just so I am not the only one who has to wake up early? Instinct may say yes, but logic says no. Why would I hope for someone else to be sad? Especially if it’s something in our control, why would I want another person to be distraught when I can sacrifice myself for both of us. If a car is parked a quarter of a mile away in the rain, would I make someone else run with me to it? Or do I take the brunt and retrieve the car myself so they do not get wet? Life is about sacrifice. I want to make others happy, not sad, even if it means inconveniencing myself. Everyday, I try to learn to be a little less selfish, even if it's just the little things and most of it is in my mind.

Well, there's my rambling. I hope some of you feel the same way.

The MOST Important Election

 My dear classmates,

We have been tasked with the most important election of all time: Duck vs Cow. I know that you have been closely following this election, but for those people who need a reminder, here are their platforms.

Duck: lowercase letters, more recess, small (regular) legos, and 2 birthdays a year

Cow: uppercase letters, more snacks, large (kindergartners made this list) legos, and 2 Christmases a year

Duck's running mate is Pig, and Cow's running mate is Hen.

I am firmly in the camp with Cow and Hen because I think that Uppercase letters are better than lowercase letters because our names all start with an Uppercase letters. Also, I could never trust a pig because of the book Animal Farm. Finally, I would prefer 2 Christmases a year because we get school off for Christmas, but we don't for our birthdays. Happy voting!

Who do you think will win the election?

Hey guys,
So with the election approaching upon us (and the next presidential debate this Thursday), I wanted to ask you guys, who do you think will win this upcoming election? I want you all to answer unbiasedly. With your own research, or even waiting 'til after you watch the debate, vote which candidate you believe will win. Also, I am not adding any third party candidates because, to be honest, that is just a waste of a vote. So, have fun and I'll post the results later this week!
All the love,

Fatal Flaw Poll

Hello, my fellow AP English Students (and teacher)

So, I am making my weekly contribution to the blog of me asking deep questions about each other through slightly irrelevant questions. I think these blog quizzes are helping us learn more about each other as a class, which is a good thing before we graduate. I'll be honest, I don't know much about all of you, but when I do these quizzes or character analysis I feel like it helps me get to know all of you more, and I hope you guys feel the same. This week, since we are reading Oedipus, I decided to focus on fatal flaws, as it is a staple of all greek tragedies. I know we've been doing a lot of polls, but there will be one at the end of this. I'll describe each of the fatal flaw (some are self explanatory), and you can decide which one (or more if you are stuck) to give to your classmates. There will be a short answer option at the very bottom to tell me of any flaws that I missed that you would've liked to see that I can add to the results, but these are a general list of common fatal flaws in the greek mythos. I'll post the results sometime next week once I get enough responses.

Excessive personal loyalty: this one is pretty obvious; it's for a person that is too loyal to those they consider family or friends, meaning they would do anything for them even if it means they will suffer.

Pride (hubris): this is probably the most common fatal flaw in literature, and is for people that have trouble believing they need help, thinking they can do anything without other and better by themselves.

Holding grudges: this can actually be a really dangerous fatal flaw, as it can lead to a miserable life for those that follow it too strictly; those who have this fatal flaw will carry it with them to their graves and never forgive those who have wronged them.

Ambition: ambition isn't a bad thing, but for it to be a fatal flaw, that person would desire power that they either don't want or need just for the sake of it and will pursue success even if they have to sacrifice more than they would like to achieve their end goal.

Feeling of inferiority: a really sad one, people with this flaw always see themselves as the least important people; they view themselves as the side characters in everyone else's story which can lead them to make rash, drastic decisions to prove their worth to their family or friends.

Vanity: similar to hubris, vanity is typically more focused on one's appearance but can also factor in their achievements, qualities, and abilities; vanity is not always about looks, it can sometimes mean that you are too obsessed with other aspects of yourself and cannot see anything outside of that.

Low self-esteem: while similar to feeling of inferiority, the flaw of low self-esteem is for those who are constantly in a state of self-doubt, affecting their mental state and perception of those around them; they can see themselves as useless or invaluable, but usually don't act rashly like those with the feeling of inferiority flaw.

Excessive wrath: a usually extremely deadly flaw, excessive wrath can be blinding for those with it; this flaw usually stems from some kind of wrong-doing to the person that they never forget that causes them to act out of anger for as long as needed or until they get their revenge.

Temptation to deliberation: this is one I had never heard of but did some research into to figure out a more specific example; these are people that are too careful or compromising in their ways, or in our terms a "push-over", which can lead them to never do things for themselves and not knowing where they truly belong.

Anxiety: this usually isn't actually a "fatal" flaw per say, but it still falls under the category; this is for those people that go out of their way to prove themselves because of this deeper need to become better that causes them to go into tricky situations that can lead to more, and more, and you get the point (like a spiral).

Impulsivity: while some of the other flaws lead to rash decisions, this is the definition of those who act based off of impulse; they do not think of their actions and will act on pure animalistic instinct, which can cause people to feel they are deceptive or liars since they have to quickly get out of situations they have caused.

Ability to resist challenge: this one sounds a bit odd, but think of it more as those who cannot for the life of them admit themselves to be wrong; this is related to pride, but is much more specific since it can cause more harm if they are challenged physically or mentally (never letting this go and letting it eat away at them).

Over-analyzation: this in modern terms would be our "over thinkers" of society; if there is even a small problem, they could spiral and spend hours or days trying to solve them, which can lead to a disconnection from those around them if they spiral too far.

Impatience: as they say, patience is a virtue; those with this flaw allow their impatience to take over, always wanting quick and easy results, as they get frustrated too easily if things aren't exactly how they want it.

Excessive jealousy: this flaw can cause a lot of issues in personal relationships, as it can push those you truly care about away; those who are too jealous of others in their lives can become fixated on it and will be consumed by their feelings to a point where they eventually break.

Misplaced Trust: I also like to think of these people that place too much trust in those they have no reason to trust; it's blind essentially, and can be dangerous if people take advantage of their trusting nature and use it for personal gain.

Excessive Curiosity: whenever I think of this flaw, I think of Pandora as her curiosity lead to her downfall, so think of someone who would do the same thing as her and open the box; these are people that have to know what they are dealing with and cannot stand not being in the "loop".

French horn Disney Medley(s)!

Hey y'all! Abbie asked for a weekly Disney post from me, so I'll try my best (I didn't watch many Disney movies growing up because my mom didn't like the idea of Disney princesses lol. I have watched Mulan, Pocahontas, the Aristocats, Beauty and the Beast, and Frozen.) Anyway, I found this video called French horn Disney Medley, which features a French horn player playing the theme songs from a lot of the major films (unfortunately not Mulan, which is my number one). It's really beautiful - I especially enjoyed the excerpt (it sounds so weird calling Disney music an "excerpt" lol) from "Colors of the Wind" (Pocahontas).  Maybe I'll attempt some of these melodies myself on my practice account. Anyway, here is the video. I hope y'all enjoy!

P.S. After some more research I found this really cool French horn quintet that does feature Mulan. I like this one possibly even better. :)

Harry Potter Poll Results

Bet you didn't think I could do it in time! Guess what? I made it right before the deadline, in the fashion of a true procrastinator.

Attached is a link to the results of the polls. A note as to how this was calculated: everyone's vote counted for one, except for you own vote, which counted for twice the amount. Then each was divided by 15, and voila! Please feel free to comment any agreeing/disenting opinions of the results and let me know if you have any questions. This was really fun to do, and I'm so glad I inspired others to do some polls. Also, congrats to Catherine for being the only person with a unanimous decision!

I went to Royal China...

 Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed to my blog on restaurants that I should try out. When I showed my mom, she was very excited and went through each of the restaurants y’all recommended. One night, we were in the mood for some Chinese, and we decided to go to ROYAL CHINA!!!!! The food was so good that we ate it two nights in a row. I definitely recommend getting the special fried rice, any soup (wonton and egg drop was yum), the beignets, and the spring rolls. It was all delicious!! Here are some pics:

Which Disney Character are You?

Hey guys! So I was thinking about how we have taken Harry Potter quizzes regarding which house we would be and which Greek god or goddess we would be, so I decided to make a quiz to rate everyone on which Disney character they are. I love Disney so much, and you can quiz on random Disney knowledge and I will assure you that I know it. Therefore, I thought doing a Disney quiz would be very fun for the class. At the bottom of this post is Google Form for everyone to fill out. Below is a list of Disney characters and their traits. DON'T associate a person with a Disney character based on their looks, but try to relate it to their personality.

Ariel- besides being a mermaid and rocking the long, red hair, Ariel is a very curious girl who is always willing to learn more about the human world. She collects everything she knows (including dinglehoppers, of course) in order to learn more and connect with the world. Besides being thirsty for knowledge, she is also brave and not afraid to take risks!

Aladdin- he may be invested on himself a lot of the time (in order to survive), but he also cares about others very much. He is quick-witted, yet always has it for the right intentions. He is very fun, and overall very brave and has a big heart.

Olaf- Ok, so Olaf is one of my favorite characters (I know, tangent).  Anyway, Olaf is one of the sweetest characters who is always down to give hugs to whenever someone needs it. He also has big dreams and never gives up on them (even if he is a snowman). He is always curious and also willing to take risks to achieve their dreams.

Mickey- What everything in Disney leads to. He is loyal, funny, a great leader, and willing to embark on adventure!

Stitch (Experiment 626)- besides being cute and cuddly, Stitch is brave, curious, fun, extremely loyal, and always has his priorities straight ("Ohana means family, and family means no one gets forgotten"). While he was raised to be evil, he has good morals and is overall a sweet and loyal creature.

Elsa- While being very reserved and quiet, she always has good intentions and cares about others. She is always classy and elegant (I mean she is a queen), but that doesn't stop her from being mature, courageous, and selfless at times.

Mulan-  While not technically Disney royalty, she is one of the most influential characters in Disney history. She is brave, and not afraid to break standards to help her community. She is very intelligent, and smarter than the other men she fought with. She doesn't care about what people expect of her, and is able to take risks, learn, and help others.

Chip n' Dale - These are actually going to be TWO people. This is going to go to two people who are fun, and not afraid to cause trouble (not in a bad way). They are clever, quick-witted, and ready to take on whoever goes after them.

Cinderella- while being royalty, she is strong-willed, determined, and extremely humble. She is always down for a good time, but she is overall extremely kind, hard-working, and loyal to others.

Simba- He is strong, always a kid at heart, extremely brave, and not afraid to learn and to stand up for himself. I mean as Simba says, he's "always working on my ROAR!"

Snow White- While being young (in the movie she is apparently supposed to be 14!), she is always extremely kind, has the best intentions, extraverted, optimistic, and hard-working.

Hercules- I put this one in since we are talking about Greek literature, and so we can hopefully watch the movie as a class. While originally being known as Heracles, he is strong, determined, initially introverted, a little clumsy at times, sweet, and extremely warm-hearted. While he is more shy, he is still a hero to others and still values good morals.

Social Media Sucks You In

I am not that active on social media, however I do have Instagram. The reason that I have not joined other platforms is because Instagram sucks me in. I only check it about once a week (I know, blasphemy), but every time I log on, I end up spending over an hour just going through everything. Everyone has such nice pictures. Am I the only one who finds it slightly oppressing? I know that everyone only posts their best pictures or videos, but I always find myself comparing my life to whoever's feed I am looking at.

Sometimes, when I am on social media, I think of this french song music video called Carmen, where everyone has to carry around a bird that represents Twitter. The imagery is scary because at the end, all the birds, carrying their humans, jump into this giant bird (social media) that controls our lives.

Why do do use social media? I started because I made friends at a summer camp and wanted to stay in touch. Is it worth our time? I don't know. Sometimes, I feel like we should spend more time face to face, but then things like Covid get in the way of that (I guess we could meet mask to mask but that doesn't feel the same.)

Finally, will social media prevent us from making new friends at college? I know that this sounds like a crazy question, but social media allows us to hold onto connections, which makes forming new ones harder. My mom, an introvert, has told me that the only reason that she went out and made friends in college was because she had to if she wanted to have friends. We have the option of living our social lives on social media.

How We All Feel

Hey y'all! I know I went off about how "disappointed" I was in a comment to Sofia's post, but don't worry, I won't reiterate any of that. Instead, I wanted to share with y'all this iconic clip of Kevin Sorbo yelling "DISAPPOINTED!!!" in Hercules. I thought it would sum up all of our feelings about how things have turned out for our senior year (not that it's all bad - Ring Day was awesome!) but just the many senior traditions that have been cancelled and other senior privileges that we don't have this year, like lunch leave. Does anyone else relate to this clip? ;)

sharing a pic of my pet (for Adriana)

Hey Adriana! I know I'm not formally responding to your post, but that's because we aren't able to include photos in responses, unfortunately, only original posts. So, I'm responding informally here to your post about pets.

My dog Sadie had to be put down at the beginning of my junior year, and the house felt very empty without a dog. She wasn't energetic or playful in any way. She didn't want to be on you all the time or cuddle, but she did want to be close to us all the time and just be around people. So, even though she wasn't clingy, there was a presence missing. My dad didn't want to get another dog because he felt as though we couldn't replace Sadie, since she was a really good dog, but after some convincing, my mom and I got him to agree to getting us a new dog. Now, my mom and I wanted to get a shelter or a rescue dog. I've always wanted to save a dog, whether that be from a shelter or from just a bad situation in general, and my mom agreed. My dad, however, didn't like the idea of that since many shelter/rescue dogs are mutts, and he thought that was a bad idea because you "don't know what you're getting." He was out of town one week, and my mom and I went to a one day event held by the Jefferson Parish shelter where you could adopt a dog for only $15. We found one that we fell in love with, Eddie. He was a Boston terrier/Rottweiler mix, and he was the sweetest thing ever. His old owners had moved houses and left him, so he had abandonment issues, and they were obvious. As soon as my mom leaned down to pet him, he started pushing into her leg, like he was trying to get her to stay and just be petting him no matter what. We told my dad about him, and he agreed to do the "sleepover" that the shelter offered, where you take the dog home for a night and see if your home would be a good fit. Unfortunately, Eddie was already spoken for, and was only at the event in case the family wanting to adopt him fell through. That was really annoying, because why would you put a dog out and make it look like he's adoptable when he's not? But, because of that, my dad decided that since we couldn't get the shelter dog that we wanted, then we would get a purebred or no dog at all.

So, my dad decided the breed that we got, and he picked Boykin spaniel since he had heard good things about them. Plus, Sadie was a Brittany spaniel, so he has a preference for spaniels anyway. So, we went all the way to Mississippi to pick out a dog from a breeder. Boykin spaniel breeders are extremely strict. They aren't like puppy mills at all, so please don't think we're like those people who keep the bad breeders in business because we keep buying inbred and poorly treated dogs. The people we bought Polly from are very good people, and there's even a whole Boykin Spaniel Society that you can only join if you own a Boykin, haha. So, we got a Boykin puppy.

Polly started off super sweet and cuddly, and she's still clingy, but now she's just a complete spaz. We've heard that once they turn 2, they usually do a complete 180 and calm down a lot. I'm hoping that's true, because she's about 17 months old and is still as crazy as she was at 6 months. She has a big problem with biting and jumping, where she jumps on people as soon as she sees them and instantly jumps up and tries to get up to their face. She has a huge vertical jump, too, so it's not good for my short friends, haha. She likes my mom the most and follows her everywhere, probably because my mom gives her the most attention and spends the most time with her.

I don't know why that was so long, but enjoy that long story about the process of getting my dog. And enjoy pics.

Erica's Corner / Fish Mom

Hey everyone! I am proud to announce that I am now a mother to a little baby betta fish. My mom surprised me with him last weekend after I have been bugging her for weeks about wanting one. I've decided to name him Gibby after my favorite character from the timeless Nickelodeon show, iCarly. He is really pretty and has holographic scales! We also purchased the LED strip tank to help reflect those cool colors he has! In his tank he has lots of plants, moss balls, rocks, and even toys! I didn't even know they made betta fish toys! Gibby for the most part is pretty gentle and isn't all that aggressive compared to other betta fish. He is very happy, and he is starting to show more colors in his scales, which means he is very healthy! Gibby loves to do this thing where he swims up to the top of the tank by the filter (that pushes clean water out like a waterfall) and lets the waterfall push him down by the gravel. He does it a lot. Like a lot. Anyways, that's all I have for right now! See ya later! Oh! And here is a picture of the one and only, Gibby:

Godly Parent Poll Results

So, the results of the last poll are in. It says I got 11 out of 14 responses, and honestly, I'll take that as a win. I thought you guys might find it interesting what each of us got. I'm going to list the 2 ( or 3) gods that were the highest percent for everyone, but I will say, that is pretty easy since most people had very apparent cabins they were placed in. Most people really did have at least 50% or close to that for one of the god, and I find that so interesting since the decisions could've been a lot more split based on the number of possible answers.

Adriana, you were split between Demeter and Aphrodite evenly with 44.4%.

Renee, you were put into Ares with 50% but got 30% for Apollo.

Deryn, you were split between Aphrodite and Zeus evenly with 27.3%.

Sofia, you were put into Athena with 30% but also had 20% for both Dionysus and Hades.

Catherine, you put into Aphrodite with 80% and got 10% for Apollo and Athena.

Clara, you were put into Zeus with 30% and also had 20% for Athena and Apollo.

Camila, you were put into Demeter with 50% but also had 30% in Artemis.

Abbie, you were put into Hephaestus with 50% but were split into 5 other cabins.

Laura, you were put into Hades with 40% but also got 20% for Demeter and Hermes.

Erica, you were put into Hermes with 40% but had 20% for Apollo.

Izzy, you were put into Ares with 40% but got 20% for Zeus and Athena.

Ms. King, you were put into Artemis with 50% but also had 30% for Zeus.

I was put into Poseidon with 80% but also got 20% for Ares.

Hunter, you were put into Athena with 40% but 20% for Hephaestus.

So, there's the results! I think this really ties into the mythology based lesson we're having right now. What do you guys think about the results? Do you think that your godly parent makes sense? What cabin so you think you should be in if you didn't get it? Personally, I think these matches make sense and I had a really fun time watching all of the results come in.

I don't really know what else to do for my question blog of this week, I might just have to wait until next week when we get further into Oedipus, but hopefully I can think of something before that. If not, have a great week everyone.

Potter *spits out in distaste*

I have always been a fan of the Harry Potter books. I think JK Rowling, although she may not be best person, did an amazing job with the series, truly making it an entire world where you can escape and remind yourself of the goodness that still exists in the world. I have ever have always been upset with her description of Harry Potter, the main character. Being a sucker for romance is, I have always found it very hard to envision Harry Potter as an attractive main character. Any person who’s read the book or even watch the movies would know that Henry happens to be the shortest male character throughout the entire series. To make matters worse he is known to have a thin phase, knobby knees, and wear thick round glasses. Not that these aspects are unattractive in the slightest but I foundIt’s very disappointing that J. K. Rowling made his bully more attractive if not the most attractive character in the book. J. K. Rowling has expressed her distaste for the main pulley and Harry’s life, Draco Malfoy, who is described to have blonde hair gray eyes and a slightly athletic figure, if I remember precisely, yet continues to make him this attractive bad boy persona that many girls as seen on TickTock have fallen for. Endpoint: I am watching Harry Potter tonight.

Halloween

Today, my friends Kerri and Zelie and I watched The Giant Spider Invasion (1975) in their garage on a big projector. I chose this movie over an actually scary one because I thought it would be more fun. The movie got a little weird for me, though. A few too many incest jokes. I was really getting ✨One Hundred Years of Solitude✨ Vibes. Usually, I really like watching old horror movies that are supposed to be scary, but aren’t really. For spooky season, how are you guys celebrating? What do y’all like to do?

Erica's Corner / My New Collage!

Hey Guys! So, I really don't have much to talk about this week, BUTTTTTT about a week a go I made a collage for my room out of my favorite artists/bands. I think it looks really nice and it only took me about 2-3 hours. Cutting out each idividual photo was the worst part though, as well as gluing each photo down... I felt like I needed to see a chiropractor after I finished. But, I really do love it, and LOVE the different colors together. Here is what it looks like:

Rambling about how my Senior year has been

Hey y'all! It's been almost 2 months since senior year started, and my goodness, life feels so weird right now. I feel like I'm dreaming. I'm submitting college applications and registering to vote, and it all feels so surreal. I truly feel like I'm still 12 years old and that I'm too young to be voting next month. But at the same time, even though life feels like life is flashing by, I'm dying to just turn to a new chapter and go to college. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like senior year has been sooooooooo draining. Maybe it's because of the hybrid system, but I swear I've never been this exhausted. I used to never procrastinate, and I was always so motivated, but this year I'm seriously struggling to do the smallest of tasks. I just feel like things in my life are changing so quickly, and I can't keep up. I did just get out of a longterm relationship 3 months ago, which was refreshing, but again, so strange. I'm just having trouble navigating all these changes. I just wanted to ramble a little bit and see if you guys are feeling the same in terms of how your senior years are going and if you have any tips to cope with this early onset senioritis lol.

Share a pic of your pet!

 Hey y’all,

So something that makes me so happy is my dog, Cooper. I’m pretty sure many of y’all have seen him. He’s so goofy and I love him so much. One of things that we laugh about is how in my family, my mom is the one that spoils him the most, and he usually spends his whole day laying down next her as she works from home in her office. The funny thing is, whenever any of us come in to give her a hug or just stand next to her, he gets up and does everything he can to move us out of the way. It’s like he’s jealous that we are coming to take mom’s snuggles away. Idk, I think it’s funny.

Every day, we go out on family walks in the evening and it’s the highlight of the day. As soon as we say, “Cooper are you ready for your walk?” He starts spinning and running around because he is so excited. He also goes out on his daily sunbathe at around 10:30-10:45 and it’s really cute because it looks like he’s meditating next to the pool.

In the first picture, he joined me for my ceramics class lol.

So, I know one thing that brings people together is by sharing stories of their pets. Feel free to post pictures and stories about the things you love about yours!

Anyways, this year, I got into baking. I have baked plenty of cookies, brownies, cakes, and I even attempted to make cake pops, but it didn’t really work out for me. However, there are these cookies that I have made, and they are SO GOOD and I really wanted to share it with you guys. If you follow this recipe, you will be blessed with one of the most  fudgey, chocolatey, brownie cookies out there. It’s really easy to make so if any of you all try it out, let me know how it goes!

The Deeper Meaning Behind Snape's First Words to Harry and Their Relation to Ancient Greek

I know some of y'all might be getting tired of Harry Potter references, but I had to throw this out there, especially since we're starting a unit on ancient Greek literature. Snape's first question to Harry in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is "What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?" (J.K. Rowling) This seemingly ridiculously difficult question has a much deeper meaning. In Greek mythology, Persephone wears a crown of asphodel as Queen of the Underworld, hence asphodel's meaning of "my regrets follow you to the grave." Asphodel is a special bloom of lily. Additionally, wormwood signifies absence and profound, bitter sorrow. So if you combine these hidden meanings, you get something along the lines of "I deeply regret Lily's death." Additionally, wormwood is closely related to solar and lunar deities, specifically Artemis, whose image is associated with a deer. Both Snape and Lily have a doe patronus.

I'm not crying, you're crying.

I got the information from this article: https://www.bustle.com/articles/123103-the-heartbreaking-truth-behind-snapes-first-words-to-harry-in-harry-potter

AP English Godly Parents?

Well...since we are on the topic of books from our childhood, I wanted to bring up the book series mine was shaped around: Percy Jackson. With the news that these books will get their own show on Disney+ soon, I really got back into my Percy Jackson phase. So this week for my blog post, I will be detailing the 13 main cabins and what qualities go with each godly parent. After reading the descriptions, much like Hunter's, decide what cabin your classmates will belong to. There is one very slight problem: there isn't much on what the exact characteristics of the demigod child of each god, so I will try my best to explain it. The gods and their children are not going to be exactly alike, so I won't be going into a lot of detail on the god's themselves unless it really applies. I know this probably won't be super interesting to most of you, but I was such a huge fan of these books, so I will be the resident Percy Jackson expert. I am a proud child of Poseidon (just as I am a proud Slytherin house member although I know some of you didn't put that...proves how little you know about me...I know who you are too), but I will start off with the king of the god's and major playboy himself, Zeus.

As we know, Zeus is the king of the gods. His domain is Olympus, and his godly powers are vast, but most focus on his lightening/thunder controlling abilities. I'd say the character traits of his children relate to leadership, confidence, fearlessness, and strength. They will have a sort of "god complex" as they are deemed very important; mind you, they also are extremely impatient and will let you know that.

Ares is the god of war. His children are usually going to be athletic, passionate, wild, and a bit aggressive. They are also extremely competitive people, even though they definitely have a more vulnerable side that they kept hidden. Think of them as foils to the children of Aphrodite, which will be next.

Aphrodite is the goddess of love. Her children are elegant, charming, deceptive, and either too kind or too cruel (can be either, depends on the circumstance). These are outwardly the opposite of the children of Ares, however, they aren't really that different as they both can have an equally dark side if pushed the wrong way. Children of Aphrodite are powerful, but are often overlooked because they are deemed weak, which is a big mistake.

Dionysus is the god of wine. If you think party, you also have to think of Dionysus. His children are going to be vibrant, impulsive, outgoing, and definitely the life of the party. They will have a wild side, as he is also known for that, but it isn't always a bad thing. They aren't just party animals though, as they are usually quite relaxed and are the type of people you'd also like to hang out with on a Sunday brunch while you sip a mimosa.

Poseidon is the god of the sea, and his domain consists of the entire ocean. His children have been known to be powerful, vindictive, ambitious, and loyal. Although we don't get many of these qualities in Percy Jackson himself, think of any child of Poseidon on how you'd think of the ocean and how there is always a calm before the storm. Most children of the Big 3 do have a temper problem and become angry quickly, especially for Poseidon's children as their temperament matches that of the ocean and changes quickly.

Hermes is the god of roadways, travelers, merchants, and thieves (yeah he gets a lot in his official title). His children are mischievous, clever, cunning, and are usually jokester. These are the types fo kids that will always have amazing comebacks when insulted, and will come up with the most insane pranks to get you back. They are generally light-hearted and are usually well liked by their peers.

Athena is the goddess of wisdom. Her children tend to take on a lot more of her traits than most gods from what I've seen. They are curious, intelligent, logical, and typically very skeptical. They plan everything and can be seen as sort of the "moms/dads" of friend groups because of this. They aren't boring or dull, don't think that, but they are going to be very rational and think out all of their decisions.

Hephaestus is the god of blacksmith and fire. They are introspective, innovative, independent, and ironically fiery. They are very caring people, and while their dad might be considered the outcast of Olympus, his children are some of the most impactful people at Camp Half-Blood, as they are the ones who fix everything. They are crafty, good with their hands and total softies at heart, just like their dad.

Apollo is the god of the sun, music, poetry, prophecy, medicine, and archery (he has even more titles than Hermes). His children are creative, expressive, nonconventional, and are artist but through various means. These are going to be the artsy kids of the world, and yes, they will let you know that is exactly who they are; they are very, very proud of that fact. They are usually chill people, and you would be able to find them around just doing various artistic tasks that they enjoy.

Demeter is the goddess of agriculture. Her children are kind, vulnerable, nurturing, and what I like think of a sunflower in an open field, but as a person. While yes, they are going to be very nice, they also can be very possessive as well, just like their mother is known to be. Just like Aphrodite's children, this cabins niceness should not be mistaken for weakness.

Hades is the god of the underworld and the final member of the Big 3. His children are thought of as fair, hard-working, and humble, although bit on the darker side but not in a bad way. They are usually quiet, shy and reserved as well, because like their dad, they value their isolation. They are extremely powerful despite this and are not people you want to take for granted, or else they will remind you that they aren't always so nice. They really aren't mean though, they're just a bit broken in some ways and aren't the best at communicating.

Artemis is the goddess of the moon, the hunt, and young maidens, but she has no children. Instead she has the Hunters of Artemis, a group of young, female demigods that travel with the goddess. Since they come from various godly parents, it's a bit harder to think of qualities, but I do see the Hunters as her metaphorical children. Because of this, I deem them practical, loyal, protective, and very group-oriented. These girls are a family, and family is very important to their patron goddess.

I saved the queen of the gods, Hera, for last. She, like Artemis, also has no children, but for very different reasons. She does this to stay loyal to her husband Zeus, despite his constant cheating. If Hera were to have children, I'd expect their qualities to be loyalty, family-orientation, revenge, and just...trouble. I don't really like Hera, and I won't have her on the form to fill out, but I thought I should include her for fun since she is still an Olympian.
