Mass transportation

So in class we mentioned how one of the major innovations of the 19th century was mass transportation. So clearly mass transport has been very good for the progression of the human race. Clearly, mass transport can also cause major issues. Mass transport is the reason that COVID 19 was able to spread around the world. It has been the reason that all major pandemics have happened. And now we see that is progression of humans it has really been stalled for right now, with major cities and countries being shut down. With mass transport being so important, what are some ways that you think can make mass transport safer ( less prone to spreading disease)?

I think people keeping up with their hygiene would definitely help but this seems to be a big thing to ask because there’s so many people out there. Something that can definitely Be done is cleaning these mass transportations either more regularly or more thoroughly because I think it’s safe to say they’re pretty nasty.

One way you could do it is by cleaning the vehicles every day. Another thing that could be done it people could be polite and cover themselves whenever they cough or sneeze. This would solve a lot of problems as this lessens people getting sick.

The only way to lessen the impact that Mass Transit has on the spread of infectious disease is to limit the number of people that use it or to get ride of it entirely.

One thing that mass transportation, including public transportation, could do to prevent or counter the spread of such outbreaks would be to have hand sanitizer dispensers installed throughout buses, trains, taxis, ubers, and even next to sidewalks. After installing them, the government could then put signs in all of these modes of transportation to encourage and recommend the usage of hand sanitizer from these dispensers. I think this idea could help significantly with this issue, and I hope to see it get implemented in some sort of way in the future, especially with our nation having learned from this outbreak.

I think coronavirus has made it very tough for us because of its delay and lack of symptoms for some people. They could be transporting it and don’t even know they have it. I think as a society we should definitely just emphasize and encourage hygiene as much as possible. Mass transportation also packs people very closely together for maximum profit. So if these companies weren’t as greedy, more space could also stop the spread specifically on these planes or trains or subways.

Mass transportation, like most technological innovations, is a double edged sword. Almost every innovation in human history has had some negative effect. While farming gave us a more stable food supply, it also grouped us all together making us vulnerable to disease. And while fossil fuels allowed us to move into a technological age, they have also poisoned our atmosphere. Ultimately, progress always comes at some cost, even if we can't see it's too late.
