Fake It Till You Make It

I thought of an interesting connection between Medea and the Demolition Diva message. Hear me out because it is a little far-fetched.

"Fake it till you make it" was how we were told we are supposed to live life today. I can give you one very convincing reason why this is a terrible idea. Medea. 1) She tricked Pelias's daughters into chopping him up and boiling the pieces to "make him young again." She faked it enough with the lamb and her magic that the girls believed her and she got her desired outcome, which was Pelias's death. 2) She was very insincere in her pleas to Kreon when she tries to persuade him to let her remain in the palace for one more day. He is right to be afraid of her because she is very powerful and manipulative, but nonetheless, she faked it till she made it and was able to stay another day. 3) Part of her terrible plan was to pretend to make peace with her cheating husband, Jason, and his new wife. She certainly faked this apology till she made it. She knows exactly what buttons to push, telling Jason she agrees with him and that he was wise for taking another wife. She even says that women are a little worthless. But we all know Medea is very shrewd, wily, and prideful and does not mean ANY of this. Despite this, she soothed Jason with her words. He really (mistakenly) believed what she had to say. Because of this "trust," he lost his wife and his children to Medea's poisonous gifts.

So, kids, don't fake it till you make it, because you might kill your children and your husband's new wife...

I totally see what you mean by this, Abbey. It amazes me how deceitful Medea can be. She makes Kreon trust her at least somewhat when she convinces him to allow her to stay in town for one more day while she "figures everything out". She also completely twists her attitude to make Jason believe that she is actually sorry about being mad. That is even more impressive because she has every right to be mad! And she was actually able to get Jason to believe that she felt that she was in the wrong! In the end, even after all of the horrible things that she has done, she is even able to deceive the reader into being on her side by pointing out that Jason didn't care about being with the kids when they were alive so why now?

I'm kind of laughing at this, because Medea and Demo Diva kind of have a point. I know lying is bad I'm not saying to do it, I just think it is funny that both of these crazy women, Medea and DD, faked it and made it. DD lied and put all of her signs in the front yards of other demolition sites and Medea lied to Kreon saying she would leave the next day. Though lying is bad and is never the answer out of a situation it sure worked for these two women. Both women got what they wanted by simply lying. DD has her pink demolition machinery and her pink dumpsters while Medea got to ride off in her special carriage with her two sons corpses while her ex-husband was in complete despair. Maybe lying only works if you're crazy...

This is actually really funny hahaha. The deception in both Medea and Demolition Diva both expose the stereotypical deceitfulness of women when they want to get their way. Demolition Diva totally tricked her brand new clients into thinking she was reputable and trustworthy. Medea totally tricked Kreon and Jason into thinking that she had learned her lesson and that they could trust her as well. However, as soon as these women were trusted they took advantage of those who trusted them (DD by demolishing their houses without any real credibility, and Medea by killing Kreon, his daughter, and Jason's two sons). Like Ashley said, I am actually laughing at this whole situation. GREAT comparison!!

I think it's also interesting to note that both Madea and demo diva came from respectable backgrounds. Madea was the daughter of King Aeetes and dd was part of a middle class, traveling family! I think the topic of lying that you guys are talking about has a lot to do with these backgrounds. Madea really does not understand how valuable life is and how horrible murder is because she has never been a victim. Madea has been sheltered her whole life and because of this, I would say that she does not comprehend the concept of evil. Demo diva, while she may actually appreciate how much hard work these guys who moved back to Michigan put into their demolition jobs, does not respect their work. I'm not trying to be mean to demo diva:((, but I'm just saying that we, privileged with private education and things of that sort, have to make an extra effort to understand the struggle that other people must face in order to obtain things that may come more easily to us. If we fail to do so, we may end up lying like demo diva or killing our children like Madea!
