My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Manipulation

When we were talking about women manipulating men to get what they want in a society where women are powerless, I was immediately reminded of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. There's one part where the main character, Tula, wants to go to college to take computer classes. Her father won't allow her to, but her mother says she will convince him. Her mother tricks her father into letting Tula go to college by making him think that it was his idea in the first place. Tula's mother says, "The man is the head, but the woman is the neck, and she can turn the head any way she wants."

This post about women trying to manipulate men because of their lack of power kind of reminds me of another point you brought up in class, Isabel. You asked the question if whether women had some sort of duty or obligation to give up whatever they had in life to men because of their gender and role in society. I think that in the case of Medea and Dido that these women definitely did sacrifice almost all they had for men, but at the same time I don't think women during these time periods always felt this duty. I think like you said in your post women tried to manipulate or gain some type of influence because of this lack of power. I don't think women like Medea or Dido always felt this duty to give up everything they had.
