You asked the question if whether women had some sort of duty or obligation to give up whatever they had in life to men because of their gender and role in society. I think that in the case of Medea and Dido that these women definitely did sacrifice almost all they had for men, but at the same time I don't think women during these time periods always felt this duty. I think like you said in your post women tried to manipulate or gain some type of influence because of this lack of power.
