FIELD TRIP

In class today and yesterday we talked about taking an AP English IV field trip to a prison, and as most of y'all know, I love this idea. I think it would be such a good experience for us to learn about what a real active prison looks like and what the prisoners go through every day while being in jail. While doing research for this potential field trip, I came across the website for the Angola Prison Museum (https://www.angolamuseum.org/).  It is exactly 2 hours and 22 minutes from school. I think we could definitely make it work for a school field trip.
Angola used to be called "America's Bloodiest Prison" and is the largest maximum security prison in the United States. It is right in our home state and we should learn more about it's history and culture. Visiting would be a great way to learn all of these things! What do y'all think? Would y'all be interested in going? (go check out the website also!)

Malorie, I think this would be a wonderful and fulfilling thing to experience. When I was in 7th grade I went to Angola prison and I remember learning a lot and enjoying it thoroughly. I do not necessarily remember what I learned, since it was so long ago, but I remember loving it. We need to do whatever it takes to be able to go and experience this prison. I also remember that they brought us into death row and showed us the room where they preformed the lethal injections.

This a great idea for a field trip. I would love to visit prison and learn the history of the prison. This sounds like a blast of a time. We haven't had that many field trips throughout high school and this one sound like a banger

I think a field trip to any prison would be a great experience for us. We can't claim to understand the effects of the justice system if we don't go and see what it is actually like within the system. I personally would not want to spend any time anywhere near Death Row let alone the execution chamber as I consider the very assistance of those places to be immoral.

I think it could be a good idea, particularly because all of our projects have something to do with the prison system. If we do decide to go, I think we should take some time in class at some point beforehand to discuss what we will be doing, how we should behave, and the other logistics of visiting. Again all in all, I think it would be a great informative experience.

I love this idea!!!! I think this is the best way to understand what these prisoners lives are like. I also think this is a great way for us to appreciate a lot of things that most people tend to take for granted from the food we eat to our rights to freedom and education.

A field trip to Angola Prison sounds like a good idea. As we have been learning about the justice system, including its purposes and even shortcomings, it would be nice to see it in action. Also, out of all the prisons that we could visit, I think Angola Prison would be one of the best, as it is one of the older prisons in the state and it's filled with both culture and history. It's known for its music, drama clubs, and even the famous Angola Prison Rodeo.

I fully support going on this field trip for multiple reasons. First, it would be very educational for us. Most of the time, we just read statistics about prison populations and other numbers. This would allow us to really put the faces to the numbers. There are real lives and experiences behind all of the numbers we see. I believe that this could be a very enlightening experience for all of us. Also, I think it would be very humbling to see the lives of these people. In all, this would be a very beneficial learning experience for each one of us and we could all pull something out of it. So please Mrs. King let us go.
