The First Draft of The Waste Land and Pound's Edits

As we mentioned in class, Eliot had the first draft of The Waste Land heavily edited by fellow modernist poet Ezra Pound. Pound was very influential on Eliot, as you can tell from his very nice dedication to him at the beginning of the poem (with a Dante reference because of course).

Online, I found a manuscript of the original first draft of The Waste Land with Pound's handwritten edits. It's interesting to see how he changed the poems and how different the poem would be if the first draft was published. Pound recommended the total removal of several relatively large sections, including the original opening.
