Cube: a dark representation of purgatory (Spoiler Alert)

Cube a canadian horror film that follows six characters who have been trapped in a maze of interlocking cubes. The cube maze is organized like such: Each cube is a room, with hatches on each wall (6 hatches total) that lead to another cube; however, some cubes are harmless, but others are rigged with gruesome traps. The movie itself is quite mysterious, there is no other story than the one we are watching; each character has little to no backstory. The cube itself is quite intricate, indicating that it must have been built, but the movie never reveals who is behind the maze; thus leaving the movie up for interpretation. I believe the cube maze is a morbid depiction of purgatory. Each character randomly awakens in one of the cubes, giving the viewers no information on how they got there; associating this to purgatory, believe this to be an indication that that character has died and awoken in purgatory (the cube).  At the end of the film (Spoiler Alert) one of the characters escape the cube. The exit is depicted as a hallway that leads to a mysterious light; after discussing the importance of light in Dante's Inferno, i have concluded that the light the character walks into is the light of heaven. There are many holes in my argument; for example, one of the six characters is to have unknowingly designed a portion of the cube, possibly making him a fallen angel of sorts. I believe the Canadian horror master piece, Cube, to be a metaphor for purgatory.
