The Buendias: A Royal Family

The Buendias, the original family in Macando, have an anything-but-normal family history. The way Marquez describes the eccentric and intrcate time line of the Buendias similar to that off an analysis of a royal family's family tree. We start with the introduction of the founder of the family, Jose Arcadio Buendia and Ursula Buendia, and then we are introduced to the off spring of the family: Amarranta  Jose Arcadio, Aureliano, and Rebecca. I see the most connection here , in the eccentric activity of the children. I feel that all of the children share this characteristic of doing what they want, regardless of morality. For example, The rivalry between Amarranta and Rebecca, to me, sounds like it would fit perfectly into a royal family's story. Two sisters are willing to kill each other for the hand of a man, that sounds like something only a person of royal status would do. I see a royal family as having everything and not afraid to lose anything, so the fact that Amarranta is willing to kill her sister for a man perectly exemplifies this nonchalant "royal" behavior.
