Cupola on the ISS

Fleming discusses Cathedral of Florence on pages 246-248. It notes the cupola that Brunelleschi designed for the dome. In the picture, the cupola has windows facing in each direction through which light enters. In 2010, NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) installed the Cupola module on the International Space Station. Like the dome in Florence, the module has windows on each side (albeit only six sides instead of eight); however, the module's primary purpose is to be a viewing space for visiting astronauts.
