Whatta Creeeeep

Does anyone else feel as though Underground Man has the qualities of a serial killer. The way he stalks the soldier for years is obsessive and unhealthy. In fact, obsessive is a very good way to describe UMan. He obsesses over little occurrences in his everyday life imagining revenge until he drives himself crazy. He is definitely "sick" as he said in the beginning, but I'm not sure it's a liver problem....

Okay so now that i think about it the underground man does kind of remind me of Dexter. The UMan (hehe) does stalk his prey in a dexterlike way and they are both seeking revenge. Maybe Dostoevsky is trying to say something about the nature of justice in the world by having the underground man seek revenge for all of these little things.

I agree with yall but I kinda think Oskar from Tin Drum was way more messed up.

I completely agree that underground man is a creep. He tries to act sly and act like he is a above everyone else when in actuality he's just kind of a creeper loner. He especially act likes a creep when he follows the soldier.

Sara brings up a good point that the underground man is similar to Oskar. They both seem messed up and searching for more in their lives. The underground man seems unhappy that he has closed himself off from the rest of society

Woah, UMan (nice one meredith) displays some of these characteristics such as isolation and chronic lying.

I agree with Sara that the Underground Man is very similar to Oskar. They both want to hurt other people just for their own benefit. Oskar wanted to be isolated from the world as does the Underground Man. They even obsess over the smallest things like the stain on the pants or the ants running along the floor.

I like Christine's research on serial killers. I especially like her point on chronic lying... didn't even think of that one. Lying to others and oneself in order to create a false self-image could definitely be classified as sneaky and creep-like.
