Christmas Traditions

 Hey everyone,

As the holidays are getting closer and closer, I am getting more and more excited!! I think this is the first time in a long time where I am actually hyped up about the holidays. We just put up our tree this week and it looks really nice. Anyways, I was thinking about holiday traditions that I do with my family and if you guys would like to share your traditions, that would be great! I’d love to read them :)

My family usually separates Christmas on the 24th at night, and we usually get together and eat tamales that I make with my grandma. That night, we go to mass and then head to bed. In the morning, we gather around our living room and open present/ watch Christmas movies on the couch all day long. My grandma usually made a warm traditional Guatemalan drink called atol de elote and it’s so yum. I can’t wait!

Hey Adriana!
I am so so excited about the holidays as well! I think it'll be a good escape from everything that this year has brought onto us... Anyway, my family and I actually just put up our tree yesterday! I think it looks really nice. My family's tree mainly consists of personal ornaments like ones we made when I was younger or ones we picked out when we were at Disney or at just Target. Although it isn't really cohesive, I think it looks really beautiful! It's always a bit emotional putting up those ornaments because it only feels like yesterday when I picked out a Lilo & Stitch ornament from a store in Disney Springs, but that was actually like 10 years ago. I wish time wasn't so fast... I really miss being a kid and not having to worry about exams or math or anything really other than if I was going to get coal for Christmas. Anyway, I hope you have a great holiday season, Adriana!
Much Love,
Erica Ricci

Hey Adriana!!
That sounds amazing. For Christmas, my family and I make mini orange muffins and sausage biscuits. Our cousins from out of town come and stay with us during Christmas, which is super fun. We go to church Christmas Eve, and afterwards we all gather around and sing. My family is pretty musical, so we have a bunch of musical instruments and people who have trained their voices professionally. Basically, we just perform and all sing together. We sing Good King Wenceslas, with the different roles/parts, and a bunch of other Christmas carols. For New Years Eve, we play multi-person solitaire (which is super competitive). We lunge across the table just to get a card in before someone else. It gets pretty intense, but it’s really fun. We also swing dance and do music. I really can’t wait for exams to be over. Ms. King, are you feeling nostalgic thinking about all your holiday traditions? If you want to go on Christmas break early, we don’t need to have a Midterm. Whatever you want. Listen to your heart.
Love,
Abbie

I know that y'all know this already, but my dad is a priest. He works Christmas mourning, but he is also a super early riser. When we were little, we would naturally wake up early and we would sneak downstairs and peak at the stockings. It was this James Bond esque move for us because we would have to sneak by my parents' open door. My mom is also a light sleeper. Now, we set an alarm for 4:32 (so it doesn't look like an alarm was set) and we wake up our parents to go open presents. It would be awful to wake up late at this point because we would be breaking tradition.
Also, we still have an elf. I know that it might seem crazy, but my brother and I go along to humor my mom. The elf is about 3 inches tall, and she has her own doll house. She used to move around, but when we got too old to search for her, she became a fixture next to the tree. This year, Elfy (our elf, I know, original) brought with her a monolith and a boyfriend. Well, we actually found out today that its her fiance, and we were given a wedding invitation. Any ideas for a wedding gift? I am open to all suggestions. Elfy and Bob make an adorable couple.
