One of my favorite aspects of One Hundred Years of Solitude are
the various cycles that continue throughout the novel. I think the way in which
everything works in loops further informs the idea of solitude. Within the Buendia
family, for instance, the names and personalities of the family members
continue on for the most part in a cyclical pattern, which shows how
Undisturbed the Buendia bloodline is. Similarly, there is the overarching cycle
of the town itself, which follows a path of ashes to ashes. I believe the
ability for a town to appear and disappear without a trace is a true testament
to how difference and unconnected Macondo really was from the outside world.
