Allegory of the Cave
Recently in class we were tasked to read Plato's allegory of the cave. In his allegory Plato describes how one of the men in the cave is let out to see the real world. He is in shock as he receives all this new information and is not sure how to handle it. When he goes back into the cave he tells the rest of the people what he saw, but no one believes him. I believe Plato is making a valid point here that the world is stubborn. When people hear a new idea that does not agree with their own views or opinions they are very quick to throw it out. People are not as accepting and open to others ideas and we should be. There are numerous examples of this no only on a day to day basis, but also on a global basis. People everyday isolate groups of people or a single person sometimes just because they have a different view on something than their own. Plato wrote this allegory thousands of years ago in Ancient Greece and this point still stands today. People living today and people living in the 300s BC were not all that different. This part of Plato's allegory standing true today shows that people have been just as suborn and close minded as they are today.
