1. The original manuscript for Things Fall Apart was actually lost by the publisher before the book was published. Thankfully the manuscript was found after a couple of months, but it is pretty crazy to think that this very influential book was almost never published.
2. Charles Dickens was very influential for Achebe. Achebe has said that he had admired Dicken's work for a long time and that he has modeled a lot of his characterization off of his works.
3. Nelson Mandela, Toni Morrison, and Obama all have mentioned that Things Fall Apart was very influential and one of their favorite novels.
