As Things Fall Apart is largely about Igbo culture, and art is one of the more prominent manifestations of culture, I thought I would share some Igbo art..

One thing Inlove about this art is that it’s natural and cultural, it’s genuine. This art is something more personal and authenic, it represents a whole culture and the history of the Igbo culture. It’s somethng so beautiful it captures the essence of a culture into one piece. It shows how I’m touch with themselves the Igbo people are.
Thanks for sharing these! The mask especially caught my attention, as we just saw something similar portrayed in one of Picasso's works. We also saw masks in Things Fall Apart during the ceremony of the egugwu. Their masks are painted white, which apparently in Igbo culture symbolizes spirits. Two types of really famous masks are, first, the Queen of Women, which represents something like the ideal woman in Igbo culture. It's worn during ceremonies of purification as well as at funerals. Another type of the Maiden Spirit. Apparently men use these and dance "as adolescent girls," as a tribute to girls, women, and their beauty.
