LAST BLOG POST OF THE YEAR

Hi there everyone, I decided to create my own post rather than commenting on someone else's for this last post of the year.  I'd like to discuss what her favorite assignments/units of the year were.  In English class my favorite story that we read was Candide. I found it's hilarious plot entertaining and absolutely loved watching the play in class. In  humanities my favorite unit was studying renaissance art. Something about my Italian heritage and just the beauty of the art made that entire unit enjoyable for me to presentation and ultimately studying for the test. Special thanks to Mrs. Quinet and Ms. King to making me a better student during all of those 90minute periods  over the past 9 months.  I'm so glad that I took Humanities/AP English IV as it has better prepared me for college than any average English class would.

I can't believe we've come to this moment so soon! Time really did fly by...

Some of my favorite things we read:
Candide
Medea
Oedipus Rex
Metamorphosis
The Wasteland

I loved all the art we learned from each unit, too! And those projects we did were always fun.

Thank you Mrs. Quinet and Ms. King for tolerating all of our nonsense!! I appreciate all of the work and time you put into teaching our class.

It's crazy how fast this year went! I feel like I've learned so much though so if was definitely a successful year! My favorite art unit that we've covered is probably post-modernism because I find philosophical and psychological thoughts like that super interesting. The fact that that whole time period of art and ideas (lol) was based on the fact that there is no set reality and that it is different for everyone is very perplexing. It evokes a lot of thought. My favorite book that would probably have to be No Exit because is involves a lot of psychological thinking as well. It was very different and also caused the reader to really think about the situation. Thank you Ms. King and Mrs. Quinet for everything y'all did for our class!

I really do feel like that AP English IV / Humanities has made me a more educated person. I was completely ignorant of the most famous art pieces in history before this. I especially enjoyed making presentations on history and art, because i'd always find interesting facts that I had never known of.

My favorite thing we read this year was Midnight's Children, and I think people may kill me for saying that but oh well. I liked it because of the cool take on history. Saleem's perspective really introduces a new way to think about India's past as opposed to simply facts. Although it was long, it was definitely worth the read. I second everything people are saying on here, Ms. King and ms. Quinet. Thank y'all for putting up with and teaching us all year! I've definitely learned a lot.

Some of my favorite works that we have read this year are definitely Medea and Beloved. I enjoyed both of these books because they had strong and influential female leads, and they were both interesting to read. They each had a controversial story line and it is always cool to argue each side and see certain things from different perspectives.

As I sat watching my last baseball game today, cheering on the kids I have grown up with and bonded with over the past 4 years (and some the past 14 years of my life) I realize that STM is all I have ever really known. It is exciting and intimidating to think about leaving for college next year. It stresses me out not having a plan....what if I never see the friends I have ever again? I fear the unknown, however I am very excited to move on in this part of my life.

I would also like to add that I really enjoyed learning about all of the art in conection with different time periods. My interest in art history struck last year when my independent study book entitled "The lost Masterpiece" was a mystery that involved uncovering a painting and figuring out if it was an artists original. I genuinely enjoyed seeing how art developes through time.

Although Ms. Quinet put me through the wringer, I'm so glad that I took humanities this year. I enjoyed everything that we read, but I guess my favorites would have to be Medea and the Metamorphosis. Gregor lit up my life. I miss him. I also really enjoyed learning about all of the different art periods (not so much history but...) I feel like Ms. Quinet has given me a new appreciation for art that I didn't have before. And now whenI go to a museum, I can look around and be like "hey I know that!" Or I can recognize different periods and that is something I never thought I would be able to do. Thanks Ms. King and Ms. Quinet. I truly enjoyed our time together as stressful as it could be. I appreciate the discussion based feel of the classroom and I hope you go on to inspire more students.

My favorite thing this year was studying all of the plays! I loved the drama aspect of it. Especially Medea. Yes, she was crazy but she was quite a character. The fact that she would sacrifice her own kids to prove a point. Women should not be walked all over and I loved how passionate she was about it. And yes, thank you to Ms. King and Mrs. Quinet for putting up with all of our shenanigans this year!
