ooh I just thought of an interesting question to ask:
Guys, we've all been doing our Common App applications for various colleges for a while now. Everyone's probably been asked this question at least once: "We want to get to know YOU better! Tell us about a skill, hobby, or other thing that you personally enjoy, and why?" I know I put down piano for most of my colleges, then videogames for the other colleges. What did you guys write about for that question, and what should your answer have been in actuality?

I answered that I highly enjoy watching movies. Yes. I know it is basic, but it’s true. I also put playing basketball. Again, basic. However, if I have to lie to a college about who I am to get in, then I shouldn’t be going there. I actually just got denied by GA Tech, but that just means it wasn’t meant to be. So, I highly believe that telling the truth about yourself is always the way to go. If it doesn’t work out, it’s all good. Keep thriving my kings and queens
I applied to Loyola Chicago and I didn’t actually submit my college essay we wrote in class. Instead, I chose to stroke their ego a lot and subtly beg them to let me into their nursing program. It got me into my dream school so like flattery works if you do it correctly.
I replied to that question by saying that I highly enjoy bantering with my english teacher and ruling over the masses on an english blog with an iron fist.
What I talked about was how, apart from my academic interests, I was involved in many extracurricular activities, such as Model United Nations, Science Olympiad, and Student Council. I also went into detail about my passion for playing basketball, and how both watching and playing the sport has affected me. Looking back at it though, maybe I could have added a little more about my personal life, like what I involve myself in during my free time, but I think colleges will find my responses just as intriguing.
I didn’t answer this question, instead I answered the question: “Discuss an event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.” I discussed how one summer I jumped off a bridge into a lake and that this event eventually taught me to take beneficial risks in my school and social life. As frustrating as it was writing college essays, I found that choosing this question helped me realize a lot more about myself than I realized in the specific time in my life that I actually had jumped into the lake.
Great answer, Tanner! Guaranteed automatic acceptance!
