Kind of random

Subjective reality is crazy to think about but what's even crazier to think about... DREAMS (see there’s kind of a correlation between the two). I started thinking about his when my brother brought up that he only dreams in black and white which I think is wack. Also where do y'all think dreams come from? Is it our subconscious having it's time to shine or just random thoughts or something else??? And while we're at it what's your craziest dream? I'm curious.

That is really crazy how your brother dreams in black and white, sometimes when I dream the color is very very dull but never to the point of black and white. I feel like sometimes dream are just random, but other times I feel like they come out when we know something about ourselves deep and we are just trying to tell our selves that thing. Also I find strange that I dreamed in Spanish once.... do any of the other Spanish have this happen?

I think that’s pretty cool your brother dreams in black in white. I also agree it has a lot to do with our subconscious mind tell you things. For example, I’ve heard that when you have dreams about being chased it is a response to issues in your life you are not addressing or underlying anxiety about something. I think dream studies are pretty interesting and there are countless theories about what dreams may represent. I have very vivid and oddly specific dreams that I usually remember but I can’t tell you what my craziest dream was because there are a few.

I think it's really odd how different people experience their dreams, for example I sometimes dream in the third person. The purpose of dreams have been speculated by psychologists for many decades. Freud originally believed that dreams result from unconscious wish fulfillment, but later he changed his view on dreams to be the guardians of sleep, repressing and disguising bodily urges to ensure sleep continues. Jung believed dreams to be messengers to the dreamer giving the dreamer revelations that can uncover and help to resolve emotional or religious problems and fears.

I also find dreams interesting, yet confusing. I’ll have wild dreams that feel extremely vivid when I first wake up. But after I get out of bed and get my day going, they seem to fade away within my mind. I can remember that I had the dream and how it made me feel, but it starts to change out of order and becomes unclear in strange ways. Dream definitely have something to do with whats going on in our current lives and the relationships we share with the people around us. I think our anxieties and negative feelings primary mold our dreams because our subconscious is trying to tell us something needs to change.

This is a really interesting discussion for me because I have experienced many different kinds of dreams myself. For instance, I sometimes have dreams that are really random and aren't even about me, and on other occasions, I sometimes have dreams which are so realistic that I end up thinking that they actually happened when I wake up. Further, I usually forget my dreams as the day progresses, and it hard for me to recall any dreams that I've had from years ago. In response to the above question, though, I think dreams come from our subconscious wanting to tell us or remind us of something, even if it's in the most random of ways.

It's been a while since I've recalled exactly what happened in a dream, but I know I don't dream exclusively in black and white. I recall a few dreams from early in childhood, one in particular was interesting because I still remember the content of it pretty vividly (it pretty much mirrors the plot to the movie "How to Train Your Dragon" exactly). I looked for about two seconds on Google and the description of Freud's idea of dreams was as follows; "Freud believed dreams represented a disguised fulfillment of a repressed wish. He believed that studying dreams provided the easiest road to understanding of the unconscious activities of the mind. ..." I know for a fact I don't want my grandmother to turn into a spider and attack me, personally, but I certainly would love to ride around on a dragon thru the sky someplace in Norway.

It is very interesting that you bring up this topic because I just recently watched Inception on Netflix with Leonardo Dicaprio. The whole movie is about how dreams are almost an alternate reality. It is a world custom made through our subconscious. So, this argues that it is a completely subjective reality. Sometimes dreams can reveal a lot about ourselves in our true reality. I can’t think of any specific dreams like this that apply to me, but I know I and most others have had them. My most memorable dream actually was set at St. Martin’s. I was in about 3rd grade, and I was being chased by wolves. Then they got my parents who then turned into blob monsters...It was terrible.
