Zeppelinfeld

During class on Friday, we were tasked to compare and contrast the differences between the Parthenon and the Pergamon Altar of Zeus. When researching I discovered that Pergamon, or Pergamum as some call it, was excavated and relocated to Berlin, Germany, because the altar was being looted by locals. Albert Speer was the Reich Minister of Armaments and War Production for Nazi Germany. He was so inspired by this altar that when he was tasked to built rally grounds for the Nazi Party he based some Nurnberg, Germany inspired by the altar.

Many Nazi rallies were held at these grounds during World War II. You can clearly see the inspiration from the altar of Zeus with the similarities in pillars. In 1945, the swastika from the top was blown off. In fact now these rally grounds are used as a speed way for Norisring Motor Track.
