The Office and the Underground Man

So I was watching to office the other day (because when am I not watching it) and I had an epiphany. Michael Scott resembles the underground man in some crazy ways. Michael craves attention from his employees, and goes to great lengths to gain their friendship. When they reject him and his efforts, he then switches his demeanor and starts acting like he is better than all of his coworkers because he can’t get their attention.

Very profound, however, I am going to have to disagree with you on your comparison. Michael Scott is different from the Underground Man because of his ignorance. Michael does not purposefully act as a superior and never purposefully attempts to hurt someone, that is just his personality. The Underground man, on the other hand, is conscious of his actions and when he is set apart from various people he knowingly acts with the motive of depicting his dominance or superiority. The difference comes in the motive of their actions. Michael wishes to be funny and gain acceptance, but comes off inappropriate and rude, while the Underground Man might wish for acceptance but when he doesn't receive it he purposefully acts in a rude manner (when he does get acceptance he can't handle and acts in the same manner.
