Paintings of the Firing Squad

Some of Manet's largest paintings are of  "The Execution of Emperor Maximilian." The painting, depicting at the execution of Emperor Maximilian, is reminiscent of other political statement pieces from future and previous periods. I find it interesting that these artists all chose to protest on similar subject matter (invasion/occupation), and that they all depict it in similar ways.

Goya, "Third of May 1808" (1814)

Manet, "Execution of Emperor Maximilian" (1867)

Picasso, "Massacre in Korea" (1951)
