I love that you point this out, and find it fascinating how civilizations thousands of years old still have an effect on our culture to this day. Some aspects of Ancient Greece have been so ingrained into our society, that we pass it up every day without noticing. As you have pointed out, there are an abundance of parades, streets, and shops that are named after figures in Greek mythology; and there is no telling how many more little things there are out there in our city, or even the world, that take inspiration from Ancient Greece because they have become so common place. I think that it goes to show how big of an impact Ancient Greece has had on the world and humanity.

Thank you for pointing this out Sophia because I think this shows that New Orleans is truly a melting pot consisting of different origins. First of all, New Orleans has a rich Creole history which is no secret. However, not many people are aware of the city’s Greek population and history despite the very popular Greek Festival every year during May. For those insterested in learning about Greek immigrants into the United States through New Orleans, here is a nice article about their history: (https://www.nola.com/homegarden/index.ssf/2014/05/tracing_greek_geography_from_b.html)
