A Waste Land: Construction in New Orleans

I was headed to school from downtown Thursday morning and upon turning off of Convention Center Blvd headed onto I-10, it was extremely foggy and there was a huge construction barrier on the neutral ground. We had just discussed the fourth paragraph of the first part with the "brown fog" in London and although New Orleans ain't no London, I was immediately reminded of this.

I experienced the same thing Farah! I was driving home from my baseball game, which of course got cancelled because of the rain. I was on west Metairie and there was water over flowing out of the storm drain. It was spewing over five feet high!! Crazy!!! Anyway cars had to merge over and a construction crew had to place a barricade. This reminded of the waste land because of the utter chaos going on and the difficulty of the cars trying to cut in and out, I tired to get a pic but I missed it. Sad! Thanks Farah for reminding me of this.

This reminds me of when I was driving home from school yesterday. It was necessarily foggy but OH BOY was that rain bad! I, as well as the other people in the cars around me, was driving so carefully by going slow as a precaution. It was so bad that I was actually really nervous while I was driving! The rain and the vast amount of cars that I was stuck behind sorta made me think of the Waste Land because of how hectic it was. The chaos I experienced relates to our discussions of fragmentation. With the chaos of War World I happening, Europe came into disarray. Similarly, the roads of Louisiana became very disoriented due to the chaos caused by the rain haha.

This is so true, Farah! The fog has been so awful lately and combined with the constant construction, it really does look like a wasteland. Not only is there so much construction, but it takes years with seemingly no progress which really adds to the vibe.
