HOLY GRAIL IN HOLLYWOOD

Recently we read The Grail. Our discussion about the grail triggered a memory of a movie I recently watched. It was "The da Vinci Code," where Tom Hanks has to protect the Holy Grail. However, the grail was not a challace... IT WAS THE BLOODLINE OF JESUS CHRIST!!!! (DUN DUN DUUUUNNNN).  In the beginning of the movie, the grail was believed to be the cup from the last supper, however through analyzation of "The Last Supper" and "Madonna on the Rocks," Hanks was able to figure out that the actual grail was the living decendent of Jesus Christ. It's really cool and has some action scenes, and maybe we could watch it in class @msking...

Well thanks for the spoiler.
But whatever I already saw it, Talking about the holy grail, I still don't get how the grail is so important to the poem. Maybe if the class discussed more of the importance of the grail in class when I was not there they could share their notes with me ;). What I can make of the importance of the grail in relation to the poem myself is that it is not so much the grail but the references, like the fisher king who are associated with the grail that gives me hints, and Antonio you gave me a little epiphany when you reminded me it is not a grail who is the savior but a blood line. My point is, in short, is Eliot is telling us our world is a waste land and the only people to save us is ourselves not some possibly fictional object or single person.

We should definitely add it to the ms king doesn't watch movies list. But this reminds me of a show I watched in which there were many different people fighting to the death over their version of the holy grail. In the show it is said that whoever defeats the other competitors is the one with the right to use the Grail. The Grail can grant any one wish. After someone wins, it is found out that the Grail is actually powered by the life forces of all of the competitors, and the large Grail fills up with what looks like blood. The winner wishes for peace. The Grail tips over and spills the "blood" covering the entire country in molten blood. Creating a wasteland. With no life and only miles of cooled blood. I think this can be brought back to Elliot's poem. The wishes and desires of humans bringing upon a wasteland. Just not as literally.
