I’m going to make a realllllyyyyy early prediction. As we can see, almost all of the 2020 candidates who announced they were running were democrats. This is a really big field with people from all over the spectrum!! We have reps, senators, buisnessmen, mayors, a former VP, etc. Having no relation to my political beliefs, I am going to predict that Corey Booker is going to be the strongest Democrat candidate and be their parties nomination for president. While he is liberal, he is somewhat business/capitalist in his thinking rather than the others who have repeat called for socialist policies. He also seems to have more hope for the United States than the others. Many of the other candidates have repeatedly only criticized our nations problems, instead of recognizing some of the great achievements we have made the past couple of years. Because of this, Booker might be more popular, pro-American candidate and will probably receive the most votes out of the dems. If Joe Biden ends up running for sure, it is going to be really close. He might get it because of his name and clout, but we’ll see. As for the republicans, I don’t think anyone has a chance against Donald Trump. John Kasich is probably going to run again but there’s no shot he’ll win. Booker/Biden vs Trump 2020.
If we want to actually elaborate on Baudelaire's concept of immortalization, we can easily talk about national biases in writing history that has been going on for centuries. Take the Civil War; for many years afterward, the southern states still felt bitter over their defeat (ex: people who wave confederate flags around in 2019), and these feelings very much effected history textbooks made in the years to come, and what children of future generations learned about their country. Some states literally used to state in US history textbooks that the South won the Civil War. For several years, these lies and manipulations of history were "immortalized" by textbooks, and taught to children as to be true.
