Shakespeare competition
After talking about the Instagram Shakespear competiton I asked around to see exactly who was entering. Sam Griffith informed me about some of the details. The New York Times is sponsoring the competition and the winner gets to be featured in one of their articles. I'm actually really excited about this assignment. I'm still trying to decided which lines I'm going to recite. SInce this is Shakespeare's longest play, we have many options. I'm still not sure what voice I should use. I don't know if I have mastered an Elizabethan accent.... I might just modernize it and choose an accent from this century.
I want to be one of the women, either Ophelia or the queen, but since Hamlet only creates them as relative characters, they don't have any significant lines. I might do the lines when Hamlet slams Ophelia when he says, "Get thy to a nunnery!". It would be fun to exaggerate Hamlet's obviously sexist attitude. I really like his insults against her chastity because the insults are still relevant, just said much differently today. I might do a modern day spoof off of these lines.
