Dali

I found Dali's post-modern artwork extremely unique and interesting. His eccentric talent also reflected the historic events of his time, such as the" soft construction with boiled beans" (as a premonition to the civil war). The one Dali piece that most of us are familiar with is the "Persistence of Memory", which invokes Freudian theology--causing us to question where dreams come from.

Dali is probably one of my favorite artists. His work is so original and progressive. I have pictures of his work that I can post on the blog later.
There's a Dali exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, we should go...

Chrissy, I think you've been everywhere. And have pictures from each place and everything too...

Anyway. My in-class remark about Dali being like Lady Gaga seems pretty far off; for one, I actually really like Dali's works. The painting with the unknown animal thing and the bent clocks all around still intrigues me. It's as if time is somehow not entirely understood and distorted yet always there and is always accounted for. It's hard to even say what I make of his works because they're so out-there that I don't know which words to use to express my reaction. But that almost seems to be part of the point of the paintings.

I am also a big fan of Salvador Dali. Sophmore year I did a project on him in art and was really intregued by many of his works. His surealist paintings left me with a feeling of sustained elevation. His paintings remind me of a dreamlike world I want to live in.
(Btw my middle name is Salvador.)

I agree that Dali is an incredibly talented artist, but I cannot really make heads or tails of most of his work. I can make out only a few possible meanings of his painting, such as the melting clocks representing the relativity of time. Maybe after this course I will be able to actually appreciate surrealism.
