Diaspora

So, where'd you end up?  I'm actually at home.  Call me crazy.  I do expect to lose power some time tomorrow, so I thought I'd throw out some posts now.  Those of you with electricity can keep the discussion going.  :)  By the way, it's NOT the mother of all storms.  I should have run for mayor.

We can't get too far behind.  Let's begin reading "The Apology of Socrates" & "The Allegory of the Cave" by Plato.  The "Apology" is in your anthology, but both are available on the web in full text versions.

Be safe!!

Dean, you went to the coffee shop because you cannot function without internet and you know it.

I'm in Sewanee, TN, partying it up with the Westlings. I hope everything went well for you! I miss Humanities, I've been telling Carly all about how awesome it is. I hope everyone is safe and happy, and I can't wait to see ya'll again!

You're all lucky - I'm in Shongaloo, Louisiana (yeah that's right - THE Shongaloo), where I have no cell phone service and no internet. We had to drive for about an hour just for my dad's verizon wireless card to work. In case anyone was wondering, my great-great-great grandfather founded this town (it used to be called Wiseville, but they changed it to Shongaloo for some reason), so I'm pretty much a celebrity to all 300 people that live here.

Does everyone know that St. Martin's plans to reopen on Monday? The school currently has no electricity. They're using the website to post new developments.

If you can, please do read that Plato stuff. This means we'll be at least a week behind. You can also read the excerpt of Aristotle's Poetics in our Norton Anthology if you're bored. After that will be Oedipus!! Hooray, incest.

What? Oh, I got carried away. Seriously, I hope everyone's house is fine & you all have electricity. I'm getting a bit grumpy without airconditioning or ice.

Oh, by the way, I drove past school. Very little damage--there was hardly any water at all. (1 1/2 inches at my house) But the school has no electricity--there are a few big trees that went down & took some power lines with them on Haring Rd.

Dean--what's a hotel without internet?? :)

I was in Alpharetta, GA just north of Atlanta at my uncle's house - now I'm at a hotel in Birmingham, where I finally get some good interwebs. Gonna make the rest of the drive home tomorrow, be home probably late afternoon.

I'm off to go read this Plato and Socrates stuff.

(it's John Posin, by the way)

I might be a little too late replying to this, but Mrs. Scandurro said it would be better to reply to all the posts so...
I evacuated to Carthage, Mississippi, a very small town where neither internet nor cell phones would work. There was nothing to do other than sit and listen to the news. Oh, and I saw a ghost. Apparently, the town is haunted. Seriously.

Carthage! How appropriate!

(Delenda Est Carthago?)

Lol omg, Manal that's so cool. You have to tell me about that later. I went to Hattiesburg, MS. It wasn't so bad. Didn't do much but I actually got to eat pretty well over there, so my appetite was satiated. Glad Gustav and Ike didn't affect us like we had feared. =]
