Okay, so if you think about artistic renditions like song covers, you might be left wondering why some things are "covered" more than others. The song Hallelujah is one of these works that has been covered by numerous people in numerous ways. The first version was, of course, by Leonard Cohen (it took him about eight years to write even though he told Bob Dylan it took him less than a day. After that, people like Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, and several others ran with it.
So why, like The Divine Comedy, are pieces like this covered so often? I think they both contain subject matter that is especially susceptible to interpretation, and therefore rendition.
