Angels are scary

In the scene where the angel gets sent down to tell the demons to let Dante and Virgil on through hell, he reminds me of a terrifying high level corporate figure being sent down to take inventory in a warehouse. This scary angel wasn't too surprising to me especially when you think of Old Testament God and angels. For example, when God went to chit-chat with Moses, Moses was freaking terrified. Like first things first (I'm da realest) a spontaneously burning bush starts talking to you, then if you look at it, the sight would blind you. Even that is terrifying. Angels aren't always sitting on clouds whilst playing the lyre, they sometimes suit up and go fight dragons and other battles (see milton).

This scene in Dante reminded me a lot of the fire and brimstone technique of preaching that we learned about sophomore year when we read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Edwards.

Weeping angels.. enough said.
Even though I hate Dr. Who with passion, it plays with the common understanding of angels. Normally we would think of angels as well perfect angels, but the weeping angels will suck your life force away and send you back in time in the process. Remember when that Angel in Egypt killed a bunch of first-born sons as a part of the plagues with Moses? Angels are scary.

I think that the fact that God has almost absolute control over the angels contributes to the manner in which they perform their actions. The angels in heaven may have different personalities but none of them would ever act against God's will. Each angel could also have various personalities and the one they use could depend upon how God wants them to give a message. So that scary angel that appears in Hell could also be a funny angel, or a gloomy angel, or a cool angel, or maybe he works at the local pet store in heaven (if it has one).

Not just Old Testament but New Testament, too. The Book of Revelation. Enough said. Anyone recall Paradise Lost last year and the battle for Heaven? Angels are badass! There's a reason Adam and Eve didn't try to sneak back into Eden. This dude was guarding it!: http://christianitymalaysia.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/guard.jpg.
