I found this scene extraordinarily ironic (picture from my trip to the Louvre this summer). Greek art - such as the venus de milo - is supposed to be idyllic, symmetrical, and orderly. Seeing the frenzied crowd - the chaos - juxtaposed with the order of the venus de milo creates an ironic scene and makes me wonder what the ancient greek sculptors would think about the chaos they've created in order, or would they think the order remaining within the chaos is the original intent of their artwork (this theory relates to the controposto position)
