The MOMA in New York

Fun Fact: Apparently only 8% of art on display  in the MOMA has been done by females. On the "Modernist" floor a performance art student wore this shirt protesting that the female artist Agnes Martin'a work was in the museum but was never put on display. For one of his credits he was drawing this clear lack of female art to everyone'a attention in the museum.

(Notice the Rothko in the background)

That really is a surprisingly small percent. One would think that the MOMA of all places would be accepting of women, since the modernist movement occurred in the 20th century and had a lot of women involved in it. I'm no art critic, but I looked at some of Martin's work, and it seemed just as good Newman or Rothko's work.

I'm confused... I'm not confused about the small number of women in the museum but instead about the way the person chose to protest the small percentage. I wonder if males have a greater tendency to become artists then women or if women prefer to be artists more often than men. Is a certain sex more creative than the other? After typing that question I took a brief hiatus from this blog post and did some research on the internet. I didn't find much, partially because most of the websites I came across did not seem like credible sources. I'll look into it some more, though, and see what I can find on the subject.
