In order to have a fuller understanding of The Tin Drum, I felt it necessary to do a little research on Gunter Grass. I also just wanted to look at some of Grass's artwork, art being one of my main interests.
The above illustration was drawn by Grass in 1956, to accompany his first book of poetry. It is a lithograph, one of many that was used in this particular book of poems. I found this piece particularly captivating. His use of positive and negative space draws your eye in a certain direction. In my opinion, any person who has the ability to both write and produce artwork of good quality is of the highest caliber. Therefore, I have much respect for Grass. Not to mention, he sculpted this awesome fish :)
